I use painting and wood sculpture to create secular devotional objects: tools of worship for politicians and the average American who genuflect at the foot of American exceptionalism. These photomontages present a non-hierarchical retelling of the past seventy-five years of American history: one in which children’s television, the hot tar of the interstate highway system, and war crimes are equally revered. My sculptures also attempt to capture the emotional effect of living through history, unable to discern which of the thousands of events happening every day will be important and which will be inconsequential.
